Sommeregg Castle
The CastleTake a journey into the middle ages. Live the life of the 13th century: Defiant architecture, sweet songs of courtly love with the Minnesang concerts, have a feast at a knight’s banquet... we also serve pheasant and wild boar. You can create your own coin as a memento!
The Museum of Torture
Taking into account the length of European history, it is not so long ago that torture disappeared from our justice system. Since the Enlightenment, at around the second half of the 18th century, it is no longer recorded in court documents – only to “rear its ugly head” again in our century.
Even if it weren’t for the shocking documentation of the realities of a barbarous Renaissance, the Torture Exhibition at Sommeregg Castle, in Seeboden on the Millstatt Lake in Carinthia, would still be an aesthetically presented platform for a trip through thousands of years of human understanding of justice and human atrocity.
The Medieval Tournaments
For three weeks maidens and warriors will give you a close-up experience of the Middle Ages near Sommeregg Castle in Seeboden. From Wednesday to Sunday there are daily tournaments, acrobatics, Minnesang, the Hand-craft Market and much more to see.
Action-packed Shows. Thousands of enthusiastic visitors have witnessed the herald call to “Turney” in past years. The bold horsemen offer one tournament on Wednesdays and two action-filled but historically authentic shows from Thursday to Sunday. We won’t give away anything about the romantic plot – of course it is about the chivalrous ethics of honour, bravery and courtly love. 7 horsemen, 10 shield-bearers and many sword-fighters are part of the program.
The Medieval Village has a complete offer for body and soul. Besides the taverns, smoke kitchens, fish grills, the ceramic distillery and the bakery, one of the most famous troupes of performance artists in Europe ensure top entertainment in The Middle Age Village in 2004. The "Teatro Aurora", with its 15 performers, is especially attractive for children. A fire show, children’s and adult theatre, magic and quackery are just a few of the program highlights they offer.
Handcrafts you thought were extinct. The Medieval Market, along with the catering and the artist stage, is located in the village and therefore worth a visit to see the new changes. Besides the crafts persons who present handcrafts that are all but extinct, there is much more for spectators to gape at.
